: Does this mean if water is heated separately from the "brewing mix" of water and coffee, that it's container must be stainless, class or porcelain as well? Or rather, if the water is on it's own in a holding tank, must the tank use those materials?

Water on its own may be in contact with plastic up until the grounds are introduced.
