WHAT IS THE VIETNAMESE STUDENT ORGANIZATION?
The Vietnamese Student Organization here at the University of Florida, also known as UF-VSO, started more than 20 years ago to bring together students from various backgrounds to promote Vietnamese culture on the University of Florida campus. For students to learn, meet new people, and interact with the campus community.
Community: VSO participates in local community service projects such as Adopt a Road, and various fundraising walk-a-thons that benefit Cancer Research. VSO has opted to assist not only through service but also through charitable donations. VSO has helped raise over $3900 in donations that aided in Tsunami relief and $1300 to the research and surgical reconstruction of children in Viet-Nam that suffer from the effects of Agent Orange.
Culture: One of our most important goals is the reinforcement and celebration of Vietnamese heritage. Every year VSO celebrates Tet Trung Thu (TTT) or the Mid Autumn Moon Festival and New Years by putting together a show that consists of singing, dancing, and cultural skits.
Sports and Socials: VSO strives to create lasting friendships through socials and intramural sports events that promote member interactions. During the Fall and Spring VSO participates in flag Football, Volleyball, Basketball, and Soccer. Also, every year VSO will have get togethers such as potlucks, karaoke nights, games nights, paintballing, camping, pho fundraisers, and end of the year Formal. |
