Veterans Bridge Scholarship

Phase 1 (Application)

1. Veteran must be first time applicant for Chapter 30, 1607, or 33

2. Veteran completes a VBS application

3. Veteran submits a one page maximum essay (12point, double spaced)

4. Essay Outlines

a. Veteran’s military and life experience

b. Educational goal and future goals

c. Life leadership skills

Manner in which scholarship would aid veteran

Phase 2 (Evaluation of Financial Need)

1. List of Names will be submitted to the SFC Endowment Office

2. SFC Endowment Office will determine which veterans may see other financial aid reduced by the VBS

Veterans who would see other financial aid reduced will not be selected

Phase 3 (Grouping by Specific Scholarship Requirements)

Applicants are evaluated by specific requirements for each scholarship and grouped for each scholarship.

Phase 4 (VBS Selection Committee Veteran Interview)

Part 1

VBS Selection Committee 5 members (VBS Committee Chair or member, SFC/UF Veterans Advisor, SFC CVS President or officer, UF CVS President or officer, and Student Veteran at Large not eligible for VBS) interviews applicants.

1. Each veteran is asked 10 questions and each question is scored for 1-10 points

2. Selection Committee Members add the scores from all 10 questions for a total score from each Member

Scores from all 5 Members are tallied and the median (discarding outliers) is used to generate the Applicant’s Total Median Score

Part 2

1. Applicant’s Total Median Scores are arranged from least to highest

2. The number of scholarships available determines the cutoff score (may shift to allow for awarding of all scholarships)

Applicants who have the cutoff score or above are sent to the Steering Committee for final selection

Phase 5 (Final Interview)

1. Final applicants are interviewed by the VBS Steering Committee

VBS Steering Committee makes final selection of VBS recipients

Phase 6 (Award)

1. VBS Steering Committee will recommend individual awards and dollar amounts to the SFC Endowment for payment

Selected Student Veterans will receive their payment (check or electronic funds transfer) from the SFC Endowment Office
