COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course will introduce students to cities in each of the hemispheres, in industrialized and in developing countries. Over 60 percent of the world's population lives in urban areas today, and all trends indicate this number will continue to increase. Urbanization rates, especially in developing countries, have been the highest ever in the past 10 years.

Using an innovative format that combines lectures, multi-media activities, and web based communications and assignments, this course will take students to as many cities as they wish to visit. Students will learn about the history, culture, development, and quality of life of each city, coming to understand how urbanization has shaped the world we live in.
