For Windows 95, 98, and NT first click the "Start" button in the bottom left corner and select "Run...". In the diaglog box type in telnet grove.ufl.edu and click "okay". Next at the login prompt type in the username off of the card you got in class and press enter. Then type the password off of the card and press enter.
Next, you will be asked to change your password. First type in your current password and hit enter. Then type in a new password and press enter. This password must be at least 8 characters long and can't be a word or something related to your name. Type your new password again to confirm it and hit enter. Then enter in your Social Security Number. The system will then log you out.
In the future goto start, run, then type telnet grove.ufl.edu and click okay. Enter in your username and your new password.
If you want to use email type pine and press enter. Pine takes some getting used to which is why we describe how to use Eudora Light.
Later on you will create and edit your webpage via telnet. Email can be done through Eudora or other programs setup for your grove account. This means you may not have to use telnet again till the webpage assignment.
When you are logged in via telnet it is as if you were typing directly on the grove
computer. The telnet session is in a Unix environment not in Windows so there are no graphics
and the commands are different. The unix tutorial will explain some of
the more useful things to know.
