Syllabus Nutshell Big Book Calendar Exams More classes Turfgrass Science

The Final Exam will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Monday 10 December 2000.  It will be an open book, web-based exam.  Open book means that students may use all written materials, web sites, video, notes, tape recordings, and all other prepared materials that they have at their disposal.  During the period 6:00 until 10:00 p.m., students may not consult with another person other than the instructor about the content of the final exam.  Web-based means that students will obtain a copy of the exam from the internet and do not need to physically commute to University of Florida - Fort Lauderdale in order to take the final exam.

Although the exam is scheduled for a 4-hour period, it is likely that it can be completed within 2 hours.  However, the additional time is available to account for any possible technical problems.  Students who wish to change their submitted answers will have until 10 p.m. to do so, barring technical problems that are out of their control.

Every possible effort will be made that the final exam be available for students to take from home or any location with internet access, using a personal computer equipped with browser software (either Netscape Navigator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or America On Line).  In this plan, the completed answers will be submitted to the instructor Dr. Phil Busey using web-based forms with the standard "Submit" button(s) which you see on web sites everywhere.  Once the "Submit" button has been clicked, the submitted answers will be the only ones accepted for an individual student (see exceptions).

Except, because of the possibility of unforeseen technical problems, each student should at the least have available the following backups: (1) a telephone capable of making a long-distance call; (2) e-mail.  It would also be desirable for each student to have (3) some access to FAX equipment and/or software and (4) a printer.

These backups would be useful as follows: (1) telephone pager ______ (to be obtained from instructor) to request a voice call from Phil Busey to verify the status of the exam, ask questions, discuss technical problems, request that the exam be FAXed to the student, etc.; (2) e-mail the same information to turf@ufl.edu plus submit answers, e.g., for a multiple-choice section, write 1a 2d 3b 4a 5e etc. or (3) submit the same information by FAX to 954-475-4125 (4) print out or at least write out your answers by hand, to serve as a backup should the technical or programming fail.  Students should use the web-based form as the primary method of receiving the exam and submitting answers and questions and use the backup methods only as backups.

The confidentiality of student responses will be protected to whatever extent is possible using an unencrypted Internet connection.  Students must be prepared to use the last four digits of their social security number or other password that is provided to them ahead of time to validate their individual identity, should that be necessary.  For general class access to the final exam and other confidential information, the user name will be______ and the password will be ______ (to be obtained from instructor).
