Reinert, J. A. and P. Busey. 1983. Resistance of bermudagrass selections to the tropical sod webworm (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae). Environ. Entomol. 12:1844-1845.

Abstract

Seven clonal selections of bermudagrass, Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. and C. x magenissii (Hurcombe), were exposed simultaneously to adults of the tropical sod webworm, Herpetogramma phaeopteralis Guenee.  Fewer larvae subsequently completed development ot the adlt stage on bermudagrass selections PI-289922 and PI-289912 relative to commercial cultivars 'Ormond,' 'Tifgreen,' and 'Tifway.'  Although similar numbers of adults emerged from 'Common,' FB-119, 'Ormond,' 'Tifgreen,' and 'Tifway,' less damage was observed on 'Common' and FB-119 than on 'Tifway' and 'Tifgreen.'  Thus, tolerance was indicated.
