Job offerings in turf have a 2:1 ratio over supply of graduates, based on a survey of southeastern Universities.  Job opportunities concentrate in South Florida, with several hundred golf courses and sports fields, year-round growth, and the use of plants to enhance business and the environment.

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Golf and Sports Turf Management is offered by the University of Florida at the Fort Lauderdale Center in Davie and other locations.  Students complete their B.S. degree without having to leave South Florida.  Most classes are taught one night per week, which makes the program convenient for working students.

The interdisciplinary major in Golf and Sports Turf Management combines the study of grasses, soils, water, pests, and business.  For more information, please contact:  Dr. Philip Busey at 954-577-6337 or turf@ufl.edu or call Student Academic Services at 954-577-6371.

The Golf and Sports Turf Management degree serves turf employees in need of professional advancement.  Virtually all the classes are taught live, and all classes are taught by Ph.D. faculty of the University of Florida and carry full academic credit from the University of Florida.

The Golf and Sports Turf Management degree complements the Environmental Horticulture degree started at Fort Lauderdale in 1984, and the Urban Entomology degree, added in 1996.  The University of Florida Fort Lauderdale Center has been in Broward County for 50 years, and moved to its present location in Davie in 1968.

Sports managers, pest control operators, golf course superintendents, and others are needed in Florida's $8 billion turf industry, who are trained in turfgrass technology.   Sales people need advanced knowledge to communicate effectively to increasingly more knowledgeable clients.  The B.S. degree is a valuable credential for jobs with municipalities, regulatory enforcement, and other supervisory positions.  The B.S. is required for certification of golf course superintendents.  Golf and Sports Turf Management is also offered at other University of Florida campuses, Gainesville and Milton.
