University of Florida Triathlon Club Constitution

  1. The Triathlon Club is part of the Recreational Sports Department and is funded by Student Government.

  2. The Triathlon Club's purpose is to promote the sport of Triathlon by having relevant speakers at meetings, by attending Triathlon races as a club, and possibly promoting our own race with financial support of Student Government and the Recreational Sports Department.

  3. Membership is limited to UF students, however, faculty, staff and student's spouses may be associate members -- associate members do not vote or hold office.

  4. The Triathlon Club will not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, national origin, disability or sexual orientation.

  5. Meetings will be held biweekly with special meetings possibly called by the officers.

  6. The Triathlon club does not collect dues or fees since it is funded by Student Government, and is therefor free to all UF students.

  7. Officers, to hold office for each semester, will be elected at the end of the previous semester. The election will be held at a general meeting whereby any member can nominate or be nominated for an office. Nominees, though, must be a full time student with at least a 2.0 GPA. All members may vote by ballot and the nominee with the majority of the votes will attain that office position. The office positions of the Triathlon Club and their duties are as follows:

    1. President - presides over meetings as well as elections of officers, attains and communicates with the faculty advisor as well as the Recreational Sports Department, and ensures that all necessary paperwork is being complied with.

    2. Vice President - assists President with the above duties and presides over meetings and/or elections in absence of President.

    3. Treasurer - maintains accurate accounts of clubs's finances and fills out and maintains paperwork pertaining to club trips and functions, i.e. travel priors, hotel and gas receipts, and entry fees.

    4. Secretary - assures that all necessary paperwork is completed for Student Government and the Student Activities Center so that the Triathlon Club is officially registered with the University. The secretary will also maintain club records of member's names, social security numbers, and phone numbers.

    5. Race Coordinator - schedules races as well as trips to out of town races, including the contacting of hotels and race directors in order to secure financial reimbursements.

    6. Faculty Advisor - will give advise and input to the officers on any subject the club may be discussion or having problems with. The Faculty Advisor can be any professor associated with UF that wishes to volunteer for the position. If more than one person shows interest the club will vote as outlined above.

If any officer position should become vacant, the President may hold an election at a general meeting, following the same procedure stated previously. The newly elected officer may take position immediately.

    7. The Triathlon Club will adhere to the UF Student Guide and other laws, rules and regulations governing the University of Florida and its students. The Triathlon Club only requires a swim test at one of the University's pools in order to be accepted as a member and does not engage in any hazing or induction rituals or other requirements.

    8. An amendment to this constitution may be made after appropriate announcement and discussion with all members and then a vote, whereby a 2/3 majority vote of the members present will approve the amendment, otherwise it is rejected.
