Hello again everyone!

Here's just a few notes, or rather 'minutes', about what went on at the
meeting yesterday.

To start off, our first race of the year is coming up, so hopefully everyone
has gotten Erik's email about the race information.   If not, here is
basically what it says:

"Our first race of the year, the Health First Triathlon, is coming up in a
few weeks on October 9th.  If you plan on competing in this race and would
like to be reimbursed by the club here is what you need to do:
-Have a SPORT CLUBS WAIVER submitted.  This is very important or the whole
travel from will get cancelled.
-Tell me by next Wednesday (the 21st) that you will be doing this race so
that I can write your name on the travel form.
-Sign up for the race yourself at http://www.healthfirsttri.com
-When you sign up make sure you print a copy of the conformation of entry.
You will need this to be reimbursed.
The process is really simple this year.  However, remember that you will be
paying for this race individually, and then a few weeks after the race you
should get a reimbursement check.  If you're curious about lodging/travel,
we will be discussing this once we! have a general idea of who is going, but
it will be as simple and affordable as possible.  "

Please don't forget to turn anything in!!
If anyone is doing this race, or any race coming up, you will need to pay an
entry fee.  They're usually $9 per race.   However, if you sign up for a
USA
Triathlon Membership you can get an annual membership for $30.  But wait
there's more!  If you fill out your form right now and tell them you're a
Trigator, you will get $3 off your membership, only have to pay $27, and get
a cool sticker absolutely free!  I mean what a deal!  ( I should be on one
of those info-mercials), (jk), (for now).   However to get the discount, you
will need to go by snail mail.  Here's a link that you can go to to sign up:
http://www.usatriathlon.com/   , then click on membership, then join now,
then the third button down which says:  "I am a member of a USA Triathlon
registered club and want the discount", then print it out and mail it in.
Also, if you choose to do the first race, and then get a membership,  save
your 'one day pass', mail it in, and then that will get taken off of your
membership cost.  But I think you can only get one of the discounts.  So
don't be like me and send in the $3 discount infomation, and then your day
pass to try and get your membership for $18, because it won't work.  Trust
me I tried.  :)

Ok moving onward!  At the meeting, the main topic was :   "How to change a
Bike Tire 101".
Salvador did an excellent job in explaining how to change
the back and front tires of a bike if you were to get a flat.  If I were
Salvador, I would write one of those books called : 'How to Change a Bike
Tire for Dummies'.  I'd buy it, blondes need all the help we can get! jk.

How to change a Bike Tire 101- episode :"Oh whoa to me, I have a flat tire!
What should I do?"

1.   So first things first!
Salvador suggested that when you go for a bike
ride, it's good to carry 2 tire levers, money, a new tire tube, phone, id,
and a  pump.
2.   If your back tire is flat, make sure the chain is on a low gear.
Release the breaks, and loosen the bolts.  Righty tightie, lefty loosie. Let
some air outta the tire (if it's not all the way flat yet).  Lift the tire
out.
3.  Use the tire lever to hold part of the tire up, and then use the other
tire lever to bring part of the tire out of place.
4.  The wheels are 360 degrees  :)
5.  Take the tube out, put the new one in.
6.  If you dont have a new tube, you can wrap a dollar around the hole in
the tube.  This will keep air from leaking, and will get you home for a
dollar......(pause for laughter)....(good joke
Salvador!).
7.  Check to make sure any glass or foreign object is not in the tire.
8.  Put the tube back in, pump a little air in it, the use the tire levers
to put the tire back on the wheel.
9.  Make sure everything is in place, and put the tire back on the bike,
making sure it's in the middle of the chain,  screw in the bolts, close the
breaks, then fill up the tire.
10. You're done
11. yeah
12. pat on the back
13.  the front tire is the same way, just with out a chain.  So it's easier.
14. Thanks
Salvador
14 1/2.    A questioned was asked at the meeting about letting the other
bikers around you know you have a flat tire.  Kevin said that it's best to
raise your hand to let the people drafting with you that you have a flat
tire.  Then pull over.  And follow steps 1-14 1/2.  Plus dont litter, you
will get a penalty.  Nobody likes a sloppy gator!
15.  This now concludes our episode of :  How to change a Bike Tire 101:
"Oh whoa to me, I have a flat tire! What should I do?"

Oh and the 'Beginners Ride' will be on Sunday the 18th, at 8:30 am.

Try to come to the next meeting, we will be discussing uniforms...and the
great discounts you will get if you buy them from us.

More notices:
-I was hungry, and Christian seconded it.  Fooood!
-Now for an unlimited of time, Erik is selling T-shirts!

USELESS KNOWLEDGE:   An aglet is the small plastic or fiber tube that binds
the end of a shoelace (or similar cord) to prevent fraying and to allow the
lace to be passed through an eyelet or other opening. This comes from the
Latin word for "needle." The shoestring (string and shoe holes) was first
invented in
England in 1790 (first recorded date March 27). Before
shoestrings, shoes were commonly fastened with buckles.

Hope everyone has a good day, and GOOO GATORS!!
