What are Triathletes?

Triathletes are multi-sport athletes. A normal triathlon consists of a swim, a bike and a run. Triathlons come in different distances from a sprint distance of .25 swim, 7.5 miles bike and 3.1 miles or 5K run to the Ironman distance of 2.4 mile swim, 112 miles bike and 26.2 run. Most anyone in decent shape can compete a sprint triathlon.

The University of Florida Triathlon Club is known as the TRI-GATORS. The club tries to sponsor its members for a few races per semester. At the present time we have scheduled workouts for all types of triathletes, both experienced and first-timers. All students, staff and faculty are welcome to come and join us. We have meetings that generally occur every other week on Thursdays in the Florida Gym at 8:00 PM.

How do I join Trigators?

The first thing you have to do is fill out a sports clubs waiver! You have to do this before you can train or race with the club. There is one sports club waiver for people over 18 years of age or one for minors under 18 years of age. The waiver requires you to take a swim test. You can take the swim test at any recreational swim hours at either the O'Connell Center Pool or the Florida Pool.
