Mudpolo Rules:
1. There is a
maximum of six players and a minimum of three players in the mud at all times
for each team.
2. There will
be two eight-minute halves separated by a five minute half-time.
3. A coin toss
at the beginning of each game will determine which goal either team will
defend. At the half, direction will
change.
4. Each time a
goal is scored, the scoring team will receive a point. The team with the most points at the end of
regulation time wins.
5. In the event
of a tie at the end of regulation time, a sudden-death overtime will determine
the winner. After five minutes, a
shoot-out will occur.
Shoot-out
procedure
Procedure
**_ The
referee chooses the goal at which the kicks will be taken
_ The
referee tosses a coin and the team whose captain wins the toss takes the first
shot
_ Subject
to the conditions explained below, both teams take five shots
_ The
shots are taken alternately by the teams
_ Players
will shoot from 15 feet out under the same procedure described below for
penalty shots
_ If,
before both teams have taken five kicks, one has scored more goals than the
other could score, even if it were to complete its five shots, no more shots
are taken
_ If,
after both teams have taken five shots, both have scored the same number of
goals, or have not scored any goals, kicks continue to be taken in the same
order until one team has scored a goal more than the other from the same number
of kicks
_ Each
kick is taken by a different player and all eligible players must take a kick
before any player can take a second kick (Subs do not kick, unless they have
been subbed in)
_ An
eligible player may change places with the goalkeeper at any time in between
kicks, when kicks from the penalty mark are being taken
_ Unless
otherwise stated, the relevant rules apply when kicks from the penalty mark are
being taken.
7. The person
in possession of the ball can move no more than three steps with the ball. Violation will result in a turnover to the
other team.
8. It is
illegal to interfere with the goalie during play. No one of the opposing team can pass the
three feet line from the goalie, unless they are catching the ball. There will be a three-second time limit when
playing from behind the three-foot line.
Scoring from behind the line is not permitted. Violation will result in
a turnover.
9. After a
goal is scored the ball will be started from half pit by the team that was
scored on. At that time, both teams will
be required to be on their sides.
10. If the ball
goes out of bounds, whichever team throws the ball out of bounds turns over the
ball to the other team. At that point a
throw in will occur from a point designated by the referee.
11. In the event
of an injury, the referee will stop the clock and a substitution can be
made. An injured player cannot return to
the game.
12.
Substitutions (other than for injuries) can only be made during the half
break. There will be no substitutions
after regulation time or during any point in an overtime period.
13. No
unnecessary physical contact will be permitted. This includes, but is not
limited to, holding, pushing, clipping, blind-siding, tackling, etc. Violation of this rule will result in a
penalty shot. This shot will be taken
from fifteen feet out. The goalie will
be the only defender in a penalty shot situation.
14. A player may
depart to the sideline to hose off eyes when covered in mud. Clock and play will continue.
15. The head
referee can stop the clock at his/her discretion.
16. THE
DECISIONS OF THE REFEREE ARE FINAL.
