There was a vision of unity in sisterhood that brought two groups of strong women to Sigma Lambda Gamma. Even though they had a common goal, the two groups existed without each other's knowlegde for months. They were first brought together by Rosemary Loperena from Mu Chapter at the Florida Hispanic-Latino Collegiate Forum in the spring of 1998.

Immediately, the united group, "Latinas Unidas with Pride", began working towards Colony status. Under the guidance of Alejandra Puesan and the National Board, they dilingently worked toward fulfilling every requirement.

On February 22, 1999, the women at the University of Florida were granted Colony Status by the Sigma Lambda Gamma National Board. Mu Chapter in Tampa, Florida conducted the induction ceremony on April 11, 1999.

These women committed themselves to strive for chapter status. They incorporated the five principles and learned what was expected in order to become ladies of Sigma Lambda Gamma.

On October 3, 1999 the founding line of the Resilient Rho Alpha chapter, "The Oddysey," was presented to the University of Florida.

The Sigma Lambda Gamma Family has continued to grow at the University of Florida with the addition of five lines following "The Odyssey." Alpha Line, "Las Preciosas," was initiated on February 23, 2000, Beta Line, "Contra la Corriente," was initiated on March 24, 2001, Gamma Line, "Labyrinthus," initiated on November 29, 2001, Delta Line "Sutratma", initiated January 14, 2003 and most recently Epsilon Line "Divinidad" initiated Fall 2003.
