The Gator Scuba Club will be holding its next meeting on Tuesday, November 10th at 7:00 pm in McCarty Hall B, room G108.
At this meeting we will plan our next local dive, continue talking about our end-of-the-semester dive to West Palm/Blue Heron beach (including dates), and plan an upcoming social event :)
Also we will clarify what the deal is on funding for dives, as well as the "participation" requirements in order to increase your chances of being able to go on the West Palm/Blue Heron dive.
Finally, we're gonna announce some cool opportunities coming up, like a scuba cruise through Carnival cruise lines! Be sure to come out to this meeting!

First Dive of the Year

Date

Monday October 20th, 2008

Location:

Blue Grotto

Trip Leader

Details

Hello All,

The first dive of the year is coming up! Get the cobwebs out of those masks... Replace the batteries in those dive lights! Get some fresh air in the tanks!

Anyway, go to the discussion board and vote for the next dive by Friday (26th). We'll tally the votes and send out an email. This should be a fun, moderate dive for all skill levels. We would love to see both new and old members for this great Sunday dive.

Be sure to double-check your gear ahead of time! Do your tanks need visual checks? Are they within hydro? When was the last time your reg was serviced? Are your tanks even filled?

If you need to rent gear, Water World offers 50% off rentals for GSC members. Also, there is a 10% discount for repairs, purchases, and such. Get that hissing regulator fixed, finally!

Please feel free to post discussion on the discussion board, under Event Discussion

Casual Get Together?

So the semester is coming to a close soon enough. The Gator football team is whooping ass, so we probably won't be diving on Saturdays. Classes are getting tough and all that good/bad stuff, so we probably will not be diving until Spring semester. The first or second dive will be the trip to Jupiter, so that is good news.

Hopefully we can all get together again before the semester ends and get some drinks. I know a few of you are graduating, so this can be one last get together. Anyway, I'm just leaving it up here for now... I'll send out an email in a couple of weeks, at which point I will update the date and time on this event. Probably sometime soon after Thanksgiving.

Happy Diving!

Fall Trip - in Spring!

Date

Saturday January 17th, 2009

Location:

Jupiter, FL

Trip Leader

Jason

Details

The trip is fast approaching, and we are excited to be diving again in Jupiter! Hopefully everyone received the email about the trip. The signup sheet is almost full.

We will be traveling to Jupiter Saturday and staying at the La Quinta, which is where we stayed last year (nice breakfast). We will be diving Sunday and Monday, for a total of 4 dives. Supposedly, the Lemon shark migration is still in effect, so that would be nice to dive. There are also plenty of lobster and spear guns are permitted.

We will be having a meeting Monday night, at 7:30 at the club house at Casablanca EAST. Directions are on the past events page. Give me a call if you get lost. This meeting will be concerning the Jupiter trip only. We have about 4 spots left as of Friday at noon. Email me if you are interested and did not get the email with all the details.

Crystal River Trip

Date

Sunday March 1st, 2009

Location:

Crystal River

Trip Leader

Natalie

Details

This is the trip we discussed at the meeting on February 5th. We will be meeting at Casablanca East (where the meeting was), and consolidating into a few cars. We will need time to stop at Publix and pickup some beer and snacks - possibly lunch food? We will need to be at the dock by 9:00am to keep our reservations, so that is why we are meeting so early at Casablanca. I dont know how long we will be there, so if you need to leave early for some reason, it might be difficult, unless you a) drive separately and b) swim to the dock. These boats travel slow! So it is time consuming to bring you back to the dock from 4 miles up river.

I currently have a post on the Dicussion Board under "Polls/Voting" - Go to the discussion board, login or create an account, and then VOTE for the best date for you. We will tally the votes on 2/12. After the tally, We will send out a message confirming the date, and then ask everyone interested in going to signup on the Attendence link (below). ***Don't sign up until the date is confirmed and the email is sent out (just to keep things fair).***

Details

Gator Scuba Club is proud to host a seminar titled, "Diving Safety Myths & Misconceptions." This will be a great experience for all scuba divers in Gainesville. The event is expected to last 1 to 1.5 hours. We are really counting on a great turnout from the club. I really want to see everyone there! Some topics that will be covered include:

* Are deep safety stops a good idea?
* What exactly is decompression stress?
* Is bubble formation the only concern in decompression illness?
* Can I get the bends even if I don.t violate my dive computer or tables?

This event is presented by Dr. Alex Brylske, a well-known dive author and educator. He has over 30 years of experience in the industry, and has become the most widely published author in diving. He has published over 200 feature articles and books on dive theory and practice.

This is a great opportunity for the local dive community. Please come learn something new!

Free of charge to everyone.

This will be Ryan's last meeting with the club!! He has put a lot of hard work and sweat into this club. Please, come out and show your support. Please, come to vote. Please, come to get drunk. We're going to have a great time, I would love to see the whole club come out.

WHERE: I sent this in an email. I don't want it on the website, so call me if you don't know.
WHEN: April 24th, 9pm (please come at 9 for elections)
