GAINESVILLE, FL - The 2009 Orange and Blue Shootout will be held on the weekend of January 23-25, 2009, at the Southwest Recreation Center on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville. This tournament serves as the primary annual fund-raiser for the UF Racquetball Club. Entry forms will be posted on this website under the "Orange and Blue Shootout" tab and on www.floridaracquetball.com by November 1.

Gators, Schwartz win Collegiate Shootout

MIAMI, FL - Five UF Racquetball Club members: Rusty Stiles, Brad Turetzky, Oren Schwartz, Brad Knudsen, and Nick Knudsen traveled to the University of Miami on the weekend of September 12-14 to participate in the 2008 Collegiate Shootout and Doubles Tournament. The Gators and Hurricanes were joined by Florida State University, the University of South Florida, and Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Collegiate bracket was in an Olympic-style format.

Stiles, playing in his first tournament, bounced back from a first round defeat to take second place in the Collegiate Red division. Turetzky won his first match 11-6, 11-2 against Miami before falling short in the quarterfinals against Palm Beach Atlantic. Brad Knudsen made a run to the semifinals, defeating Florida State and USF, and Nick Knudsen met Oren Schwartz in the finals after victories over FSU, Miami, and Palm Beach Atlantic.

Schwartz steamrolled his way to the championship with two opening victories over Florida State before knocking two Gator teammates in the semis and the finals. The "O-Train", as he's better known in Gainesville, opened the tournament with an 11-2, 11-9 victory FSU and followed it up with an 11-2, 11-4 win over another Seminole. Schwartz knocked off Brad Knudsen in the semis before beating Nick Knudsen 11-10, 11-8 to secure the tournament title.
