The Preprofessional Service Organization at the
University of Florida was founded in 1971 under the direction of Dr. Byron
Kolts, former Associate Professor of Medicine at U.F. The intent was to
provide pre-medical students with the opportunity to gain knowledge of
the medical field through clinical experience that is not generally extended
to the average student volunteer. Over the years, PSO has expanded to
provide services and connections for all pre-health
students (pre-med, pre-dent, pre-vet, pre-pharm, pre-nursing, etc.); our membership has grown to nearly 200 strong.
PSO is comprised of the most highly motivated, mature, responsible, and involved students at the University of Florida. Members are chosen very selectively from a large group of applicants on the basis of the aforementioned qualities. As a result of the careful selection of only the most stellar applicants, PSO has earned and maintained an excellent professional reputation. The organization currently holds close ties with Shands Hospital, the V.A. Medical Center, and the University of Florida Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine. |
