Welcome to the University of Florida PRSSA Alpha Chapter Web site. Our chapter goal is to cultivate a favorable and advantageous relationship between students and professional public relations practitioners. By enhancing member knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities, our aim is to develop highly qualified, well-prepared professionals.

Workshop change:

The PRSSA workshop originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 28 has now moved to Wednesday, March 7. Instead, we will be having a social at the Gelato company on February 28.

On Wednesday, March 7, the former corporate vice president of Johnson & Johnson, Bill Nielsen, will visit UF to speak with the PRSSA Chapter. Mr. Nielsen is a high profile public relations professional, who has won four Silver Anvils and currently serves on the Board of The Arthur W. Page Society and is an active PRSA member. Keep an eye out on our Web site, to read his bio and find out further details about the workshop. This is an outstanding opportunity to have Mr. Nielsen join us, so we hope to see you there.

Spring is Near!

Spring break is around the corner, and that means its time for to say goodbye to the cold weather and get out for some fun in the sun.

To ring in the spring, PRSSA will bring you Frank Marini of Contiki Holidays, a company specializing in �Worldwide Vacations for 18 to 35 year olds.� Mr. Marini will speak to our chapter on the Wednesday after spring break, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. in Gannett Auditorium (Weimer 1064).

On Thursday, March 22, the FPRA Gainesville Chapter will host a day-long professional development seminar, PR-ville: An Escape to PR Paradise at Emerson Alumni Hall from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feel free to stop by anytime throughout the day to attend events. Following the seminar, PRSSA will co-host the �It�s Five O�Clock Somewhere� social with FPRA at The Swamp Restaurant. Visit the FPRA Web site for more information.

Gelato social a tasty success

PRSSA would like to extend a special thank you to our fundraising committee for its outstanding work in organizing the social/fundraising event at the Gelato Company last Wednesday. We had a great turnout in a fun atmosphere and raised money for our chapter in the process. Congratulations on a job well done.

How to Stay In the Know about PRSSA

The UF PRSSA Chapter utilizes the weekly listserv, PRSSA and Alpha PRoductions Web sites, Facebook group (Public Relations Student Society of America in the UF network), college-wide e-mails, fliers around campus, executive board tabling for events and our own PRSSA board on the wall of the Weimer Courtyard to relay the most up-to-date information regarding events and opportunities. If you know a member who is not on the listerv, direct him or her to the Web site and click under Resources and Listserv for instructions on how to sign up through the automated computer system. As always, feel free to contact executive board members at any time with questions.

Account Coordination for key clients (got milk? and Colgate), create and update media lists, contact media, conduct research, write press releases, coordinate press/client mailings, accompany and modify timelines, assist in PR plan development.

Requirements/Job Qualifications:
-Bilingual English/Spanish both written and spoken
- Currently an undergraduate in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations or Communications
- Outgoing and well spoken
- Effective communicator
- Ambitious and hard working
- Organized and detail oriented
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Public Relations course experience preferred, not required


Salary: $6.50/hr
