Preparing for Interviews
Provided here is a list of commonly-asked veterinary school interview questions. Most of the time many ethical questions are given, along with questions regarding animal rights, research, situations, and current events. The best advice we can give is to relax during the interview and to be honest & be yourself. 1. Why do you want to be a veterinarian?
2. Why do you want to go to school here at the University of Florida (and be prepared to explain why you applied to other colleges)? What can you tell us about the school and its history?
3. What will you do as a veterinarian?
4. What will you do if you are not accepted this year?
5. What disease/cases interested you at John Q Veterinary Practice?
6. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
7. What veterinarian do you admire the most? Why?
8. What is the best part of veterinary medicine?
9. What is the worst aspect of veterinary medicine?
10. What current issues do you feel are important in veterinary medicine?
11. Be prepared to explain any low grades, a bad semester, withdrawals, or unaccounted-for time off.
12. How do you feel about animal testing?
13. (for females) Would you use makeup that hasn't been tested on animals? Even if it cost more?
14. If you were reincarnated, what would you be?
15. Describe your best friend.
16. What are your study habits? (group vs. alone)
17. Compare/contrast two veterinarians with whom you have worked.
18. What do you do in your spare time...when you're not studying or working?
19. Describe vaccines commonly given to a dog/cat/etc.
20. If accepted, and if married, how do you expect to handle the pressure between family and school work?
21. Know about current events.
22. What are some diseases you have learned about through working? Make sure you can explain them through research.
23. Many of the questions will be tailored to suit you--they may ask about awards you received, projects you've done, there doesn't seem to be a standard set of questions.
