The Beta Gamma chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, located on the University of Florida's campus, was founded in 1950. We remain UF's only political science honors society.
We here at the Beta Gamma chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha at UF aim to promote political discussion and group dialogue pertaining to all things politics. Our meetings are held about twice a month, in which we either invite a speaker to come talk to members about current political events or post-graduate opportunities. Last semester we were honored to host the following speakers:
A speaker on the political situation in Iran
Aside from guest speakers, the organization engages in political discussion and actively promotes political awareness around Gainesville and the UF campus. This semester we are planning to host a “Mock Presidential Debate” in which students represent their favorite presidential candidate and debate each other over the issues.
PSA was also fortunate enough to receive a $2,000 grant from the national chapter to undertake two projects. The first project entails the creation of an election guide pamphlet to be distributed throughout Gainesville. This pamphlet will contain information on each presidential candidate as well as national election issues and other general voter information. If you would like to become involved with the production of this pamphlet please contact PSA at pisigma@grove.ufl.edu.
Our second project is an exciting trip to the national capital. PSA members will travel to Washington, D.C. during Spring Break 2008 to visit national monuments, museums, and meet with representatives of the government. This trip will certainly prove to be educational and enjoyable. If you would like to accompany PSA this Spring Break to Washington, D.C. please contact us at pisigma@grove.ufl.edu.
Besides these exciting projects PSA also engages in other typical club events, including intramural sports, socials, and banquets.
