About the UF Recruiter

Amy Panikowski has been the University of Florida’s Peace Corps Recruiter since October 2005. She served in Malawi from 2001-2002 as a Parks and Wildlife Extension Officer. She worked on Community-based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) in collaboration with Nyika National Park and the eastern-bordering communities south of Livingstonia. During her time there, she worked with a secondary school wildlife club, taught mud stove building, indigenous tree nursery setup, HIV/AIDS education and English tutoring.
Upon returning, Amy taught high school biology in Tampa for three years before applying and being accepted to UF. Her Peace Corps experience allowed her to see the human component that African national parks have to address. Currently, Amy is a graduate student in the Department of Geography in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Her thesis focus is on tourism and its influences around Kibale National Park in southwestern Uganda.
As the Peace Corps Recruiter for UF, Amy encourages anyone thinking about Peace Corps—whether a student (any year), faculty, staff, Gainesville resident—to come in and talk about the opportunities Peace Corps has to offer.
