General requirements for
enrollment in MMC 2100

* You must have completed six hours of English credit.

You must have completed six hours of English (typically ENC 1101 and ENC 1102). Some students exempt one or more English courses through AP Exam scores or scores on the CLEP test. If you currently are taking one of your two required English courses, you should not be taking MMC 2100, as you are not as well prepared as you should be and other students who have completed the requirements are trying to get into the course.

* You must be able to type a minimum of 30 words per minute.

Most of the labs will require some on-deadline writing. Your ability to type will affect your ability to complete assignments efficiently and have adequate time for proofreading your work. You can improve your typing speed on your own time by practicing.

* You must have a strong command of written English. If you have significant grammatical or spelling problems, you need to take the initiative to remedy your problems.

Students in MMC 2100 often are surprised to have their work evaluated not only for content and organization but for accuracy of spelling and grammar. Points are deducted for every spelling error and every grammatical error. The College provides a Communications Coaching Center. The Center is staffed by Journalism and Communications Ambassadors who can help you in working on grammar and AP style. They will not proofread your your assignments before you turn them in.

Failure to meet all of these requirements will affect your grade in the course.
