Grading Scheme

    I.  EXAMS -- 40%
       A.  Mid Term Exam 20%
       B.  Final Exam         20%
   II.  PROJECTS -- 40% (all written requirements are due NLT 10 April)
       A.  CPX/Term Paper ----15% (CPX includes AAR: 5% Staffing, 5% Battle, 5% AAR)
             1.  CPX: (a) staff  (b) command of units (c) conduct of the battle  (d) AAR         

             2.  Term Paper:  (a) battle analysis  (b) research of specific war  (c) how the U. S. Military is tied to                      the U. S. political system  (d) approved topics
       B.  Staff Ride ----15% (staff ride = 20%, oral presentation = 40%, paper = 40%).  Paper must include

             tactics used, weapons used, description of events leading to the battle, description of the events   

             your unit took part in, outcome of the battle, and summary. may be written in AAR Format.
       C.  Oral Presentation ----10%
             1.  4-6 people @ panel
             2.  @ panel has 25-30 minutes to present (points off for under/over)
             3.  Panel Titles:  (a)  WW I  (b)  WW II (c)  Korean Conflict  (d)  Vietnam  (e) Desert Storm
             4.  Topics to be discussed:  (a)  socio-economic  (b) political objectives  (c)  tactical objectives

  (d) military strategy  (e)  tactics  (f)  discuss one key battle/leader
III.  GROUP PARTICIPATION --10%
       A.  Peer Group -- 5-6 people
             1.  Group Grade:  Slides, knowledge, quality of presentations, group initiative.
             2.  Individual Grade:  Individual participation (evaluated from instructor observations).
       B.  Based upon knowledge of reading assignments
IV.  PARTICIPATION --5%
       A.  Attendance – Although attendance is not required, participation points cannot be earned if you are

             not in class.  Each class date is worth 10 points toward your class participation grade.  We meet 12

             times (outside the oral presentation sessions), for a possible 120 points.  One must accrue 100

             points to gain their full participation credit.
       B.  Participation – This includes being attentive to instruction, oral responses to issues floored, and

              adding to the quality of the learning environment.

  V.  Homework – 5%

        2 Homework assignments due on exam date, prior to exam each worth 2.5% of semester grade

  VI.  Extra Credit
       A.  Term Paper -- You may earn up to 10 points of extra credit (see me first)
       B.  Participation in additional projects -- Approval of Instructor required.
VII.  Grading Scale:
       90 - 100    = A
       87 - 89.99 = B+
       80 - 86.99 = B
       77 - 79.99 = C+
       70 - 76.99 = C
       67 - 69.99 = D+
       60 - 66.99 = D
       Below 60  = F
