CONSTITUTION


ARTICLE 1. NAME AND OFFICE.

Name: MEXICANS IN GAINESVILLE

Office: The University of Florida, Gainesville, FL.

Relationship with the University of Florida: The MEXICANS IN GAINESVILLE Association is a non-profit association composed of students of the University of Florida and people interested in Mexican culture.

ARTICLE 2. PURPOSES AND ACTIVITIES

These activities will be financed with the Associations funds and resources.

ARTICLE 3. MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. Membership.

Membership types are the following:

ARTICLE 4. NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT

The Association MEXICANS IN GAINESVILLE (MEXICANOS EN GAINESVILLE) will not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, age, national origin, disability or sexual orientation.

ARTICLE 5. MEETINGS

A General Assembly will be carried out once a year, and every time would be required.

ARTICLE 6. FINANCE

Section 1.

The Association will not own, or emit actions of a monetary nature or value. There will not be payment of dividends, revenues will not be distribute among the membership. No member shall have special privileges on the material goods, functions or activities of the Association.

Section 2.

Monetary resources for the Associations operation will be generated by means of donations, subsidies and grants, and the product of non-profit activities.

Section 3.

The administrative expenses of the Association will be covered exclusively by means of ad hoc donations, and by means of the budget approved by the Senate of Students under the recommendation of the Finance Committee of the Student's Senate of the University of Florida.

ARTICLE 7. OFFICERS

Section 1. Composition.

The Association will be coordinated by a Board of Officers elected individually by secret vote during the Annual Assembly. Officers of the Association shall be: a President, a Vice-president, a Secretary, a Treasurer, an Assistant Officer, and a Faculty Advisor. Each office shall be held for one year. Any vacant office shall be filled with an elected official at the first Assembly after the office had been vacated.

The function of the Faculty Advisor shall be to provide recommendations to the Officers and to the Association to fulfill its objectives. The Faculty Advisor will be a professor of the University of Florida connected to the Mexican culture. The method of selection of the Faculty Advisor will be by invitation from the Board of Officers and by ratification of the Assembly.

Section 2. General Functions.

The corporate functions of MEXICANS IN GAINESVILLE will be exercised by the Board of Officers, previous approval of the Assembly, and within the limits of the Incorporation Articles, this Constitution, the Bylaws, and the Laws that supersede the non-profit organizations of the State of Florida,

Section 3. Specific Functions.

President:
Preside the Assemblies and meetings of the Board of Officers.
Represent the Association, and Coordinate the completion of activities, agreements and other actions as directed by the membership at Assemblies and meetings.

Vice-president:
Provide continuity to the Associations objectives and long term plans initiated by the previous Officers.
Assume the functions of President when necessary.
With the purpose of giving continuity to the Association goals, the Vice-president will enjoy the vote of trust in order to occupy the Office of President in the following period, previous ratification of the Assembly.

Secretary:
Maintain files including records, minutes of meetings and other relevant documents related to the Associations activities.
Announce the Assemblies and meetings of the Board of Officers to the general membership.

Treasurer:
Report the financial state of the Association to the Assembly.
Act as Comptroller of the monetary funds of the Association.
Alert the members of irregularities in the use of funds in the current or any previous administration.

Assistant Officer:
Promote the communication between the members of the Association.
Conduct specific projects by petition of the Assembly, and
Support to the Directive Board in their functions.

ARTICLE 8. ADHESION TO THE LAWS AND REGULATION IN VIGOR IN THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA

The MEXICANS IN GAINESVILLE (MEXICANOS EN GAINESVILLE) association is subject to the Student Guide, as well as to the laws, rules and regulations that govern the University of Florida and its students.

ARTICLE 9. MECHANISM OF AMENDMENTS

Amendments to this Constitution shall be carried out after a well spread consultation with the membership of the Association, and approved by the voting members at the Assembly. Any amendment must be approved by two thirds majority of voting members at an Assembly.
