ESE 6939 - Instructional Design I

Instructor: Dr. Lee Mullally

This course has been designed to meet the needs of those individuals involved in designing instruction. It was recognized that, while teachers, media specialist and trainers knew how to operate equipment and produce materials, they did not have the skills to integrate media into the instructional process. This course, will attempt to bridge the gap between theory and practice. It will provide teachers, media specialists, and trainers with those skills needed to design instruction they are responsible for conducting and enable them to consult with others who are responsible for instruction.

EME 5403 - Instructional Computing I

Instructor: Dr. Colleen Swain

Use of computers in elementary, middle and secondary schools. This course provides an overview of the field of Educational Technology with respect to how communication impacts learning and design. Students explore several major theories in the field as well as develop fundamental computing skills.


EME 5054 - Foundations in Educational Technology

Instructor: Dr. Kara Dawson

Course topics include foundations, history, research methodologies and critical perspectives of educational technology. Instructional methods include guest appearances (both in person and telecollaboratively), collaborative learning, self-directed learning and seminar style discussion.

EME 6505 - Television Design and Production

Instructor: Dr. Jeff Hurt

This course has be designed to provide students with theoretical concepts and hands-on experience necessary to produce video for instructional and/or informational purposes in non-broadcast situations. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to plan, design and produce video programs of an instructional nature which are consistent with the basic principles of instructional design and which demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of video production.

EME 5207 - Designing Technology Rich Curriculum

This course provides students with the opportunity to reflect upon various areas of curriculum as well as consider how to enhance curriculum through the use of technology. Jonassen's attributes of meaningful and engaging learning environments along with his ideas about using educational technology as mindtools will be explored. Students will create different illustrations of technology-rich curricula.

 

EME 5405 - The Internet in K-12 Instruction

Instructor: Dr. Kara Dawson

This class is intended to prepare preservice teachers, inservice teachers and teacher educators to use the internet effectively in their classrooms. While course participants will learn many technology skills during the semester, the primary emphasis of this class is on teaching and learning. Throughout the class we will rely on two very basic questions to guide our thinking about each and every use of the Internet that we explore: (1) Will the internet enable us to do things we couldn't do before? and (2) Will the internet enable us to do things better than we could before? (Harris, 1998)


EME 6945 - Practicum in Educational Media

Instructor: Dr. Kara Dawson

This is a field-based course in which students specializing in or majoring in educational technology will have the opportunity to integrate technology in a K-12 setting. Each student will work with a teacher from Alachua County to develop curriculum-focused, technology based activities that will be implemented in the classroom during the semester. These partnerships will be based on the notion of collaboration rather than on an expert/novice relationship.

EME 7938 - Seminar in Educational Media and Instructional Design

Seminar for advanced degree graduate students. Students will develop a knowledge of computer technology in education and apply that knowledge to the solution of educational problems. Experience in working with computer systems will be provided.
