The Goals of MAPS
- To assist minority students in enrolling and successfully completing their studies in the various colleges of the health profession.
- To serve the health needs of under-represented communities to the best of our abilities.
- To educate not only minorities but all people about important health matters.
- To ensure cultural sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population to the best of our abilities.
Who Is Underrepresented in Medicine?
The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) states:
"Underrepresented in medicine means those racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population."
"The AAMC remains committed to ensuring access to medical education and medicine-related careers for individuals from these four historically underrepresented racial/ethnic groups."
