Thanksgiving Day Proclamations
The following Thanksgiving Day proclamations give the reader some historical understanding of the center and circumference of this national holiday of the United States of America.
- June 20, 1676, the governing council of Charlestown, Massachusetts
- October 23, 1789, president George Washington
- October 3, 1863, president Abraham Lincoln
- October 20, 1864, president Abraham Lincoln
- November 11, 1996, president William Clinton
One of my favorite Bible passages points out that thanksgiving is not just a holiday, but a reason for living everyday:
"Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him" (Colossians 3:17).
