My research has been investigating complex unimanual hand movements and interhemispheric communication.
Recently, we presented results from a small, but interesting study indicating that during moderately complex unimanual hand movements, younger adults tend to show a differential direction of activation across hemispheres of the hand controlling cortex. That is, younger adults tend to inhibit the cortex corresponding to the opposite hand when moving one hand. However, Older adults appear excite the hand areas of the neocortex bilaterally.
