For the parents
We at the Interfraternity Council understand that you, as parents, may have concerns with your son becoming part of the Greek community. Please realize that the University of Florida is a campus made up of some of the best students in the nation, and our Greek system is populated by those students.
The culture of the IFC community at the University of Florida is one of responsibility and accountability. Recent events that you may have seen in the news, TV shows that you have seen on MTV, popular movies that you may have seen, and possibly, some things that you may have gone through yourself as a Greek are not the type of experiences reflected in our Greek community at UF. The environment that your son will be joining when going Greek at UF will be one which will assist him in becoming an integral part of society upon leaving college, instilling qualities within him such as service, leadership, and brotherhood.
Now we can't say that problems have never arisen. Yes it is true, chapters have taken it upon themselves to attempt to bend the rules from time to time. Instead, we can say for certainty that when a problem does arise, we as a governing council along with the University of Florida Office of Sorority and Fraternity Affairs will address and correct the issue within the chapter. We will make sure the situation is dealt with swiftly and effectively, to ensure the safety of our Greek community and the members within.
The key to understanding all the great things that your son is experiencing as a Greek member is by talking to him! We are confident once you see all of the benefits that your son is gaining from going Greek, that all of your worries will be put to rest. If at anytime you feel that your son is not receiving a positive experience during his time as a Greek member, do not hesitate to contact the Interfraternity Council or the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Affairs.
