The Habitat for Humanity Mission
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFH seeks to eliminate poverty housing and hopelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all walks of life to work together in partnership to help build houses with families in need. Habitat has built or rehabilitated more than 200,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people with safe, decent, affordable shelter. Our campus chapter has three main goals:
- Construction: Participation in the construction of houses gives University of Florida students hands-on opportunities to put their faith into action while building a partnership with Alachua Habitat for Humanity.
- Education: Our chapter educates our campus and local community about the need for decent, affordable housing and the work of habitat through our activities during the year.
- Raising Funds: To obtain money for the construction of Habitat Homes, our campus chapter raises funds throughout the year. These fundraisers are organized by our chapter and supported by Alachua County Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat does not discriminate. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. (Source: Habitat International)
