November 15 General Meeting Minutes

Filed: November 20, 2007 — secretary

Jaquelyn Resnick – Director of UF Counseling Center
Bullying is usually verbal but usually not physical incidents. It is often a pattern of behavior.
Examples of bullying behavior: Innuendo/gossiping, excluding/isolating, underminding work of others, unrealistic expectations, not giving credit, changing guidelines/expectations, creating uncertainty, anger, yelling.
The Counseling Center sees a lot of international students with this problem, which may be due to a lack of cultural understanding.
Commends Bill of Rights
Education is needed to raise awareness about bullying, wants to educate faculty and departments.
Encourages students who feel as though they have been bullied to seek counseling, keep a log of
events, speak out if the student is comfortable doing so, or write a letter to the harasser.
Currently grievance procedure is to go to the Ombudsman who goes to Chair of Department GSC Committee on Positive Supervision goals are to focus on education rather than the grievance procedure.
