Sometimes I go to meditation classes... they're usually in a calm place with offwhite surroundings, and candles burning to soft music. This picture was taken of me at one of them. I'm really into Buddism, but I'm still learning. After reading some Kerouac, the far-east religions really started to appeal to me. I think Radiohead is my favorite band... Alex likes them too. I even put them on my friendster.

Ice cream. First kiss. Livejournal. If any of those make your eyes light up, then you know a lot about me already. I like composing music and volunteering at Big Brothers & Big Sisters. Someday, I want to have kids of my own. They really make you realize how amazing life is. Check out my friendster profile. I think it has even more to say about who I am.

Couple of the Day

Project Description

Your first impression upon seeing these cutouts from any distance is only of gender and then of sexual orientation. You can tell that they are male or female from their shape and from the gendered colors of pink and blue. Then, you notice they're holding hands. When you see real couples holding hands, the first things you see are their genders, and then whether it is a same-sex or opposite-sex couple. The Not-A-Cutout Project invites you to get to know each other past gender or sexuality labels on National Coming Out day and all year long. The project addresses the assumptions we make about people based on gender and sexual orientation.

See if you can find all five cutout couples we have placed around campus. When you meet one, get to know the individual cutouts beyond their gender and sexual orientation labels. On Friday, you can buy a shirt that proclaims, "I am not a cutout - I'm a real person" at either of our tables in Turlington or the Union colonnade.

About National Coming Out Week

The National Coming Out Project is sponsored each year by the Human Rights Campaign, a national gay-rights advocacy group. This year's theme is, "It's a Family Affair" - celebrating gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender families. The goal is to promote awareness of GLBT families living honest and open lives.
