Front end loaders are short haul, bulk material movers used mostly to excavate and load trucks.

Classifications:

~ crawler or wheel tractor

~ bucket capacity (cy or weight)

~ steering arrangement

Producation rate factors:

~ fixed times (based on time studies for job)

•load bucket

•shift gears

•turn

•dump load

~ haul time (mph or fpm & distance)

~ return time (mph or fpm & distance)

~ bucket capacity (90% × heaped capacity lcy)

~ swell factor

~ operating factor

Cycles/hr × bucket capacity/cycle = production (cy/hr)

Wheel mounted loaders will have higher production rates if conditions are favorable.
