Text Box: this race came when an official came over and told the group that he was quite impressed with the strides that the whole program had made in the past few years, and if we keep up the good work, great things should be expected.

Text Box: From the President...
Text Box: Welcome to the 2006-2007 Florida Crew newsletter! First, allow me to introduce myself, our executive board and coaches. I am Adam Kallin, president of the organization. This is my fifth semester on the team, and I am thrilled to be the head of such a great organization. The rest of our exec board includes our Vice President of Administration, Patti Webb; Vice President of Operations, Jerry McNamara; Treasurer, Danny Reach; and Secretary, Marissa Streifel. Our coaching staff this year includes our Men’s Varsity Coach, Justin Knust, Men’s Novice Coach Cat Simmons, and newcomers Clayton Cox, Women’s Varsity Coach, and Raf Crowley, Women’s Novice Coach. It has been an outstanding season thus far, but also a season filled with many obstacles.
This summer, the Sunshine State truly lived up to its name. While most welcomed this as an opportunity to hit the beach, the team watched as Newnan’s lake got lower by the second., and swamp weeds began to block access through our canal. Over the course of about 4 weekends, the team went and pulled around 1000 weeds and sticks out of the water to make it possible to row.
Text Box: Along with manual labor, the new semester brought about recruiting. Fall recruitment went very well and more than 35 new people came out to join the team. With the pre-season obstacles out of the way, it was finally time to compete. The first race of the year was First Coast Head Race, held in Jacksonville, Florida. The team had its first great success of the season with the Men’s 4 winning 1st and the 8 placing 3rd. The next big event was the Head of the Hooch in Tennessee. This is the nation’s second largest regatta, and Florida Crew made a great statement. Selected results included a 1st place finish for the Men’s Varsity 4, a 2nd place finish for the Men’s Varsity 8, a 4th place finish for the Women’s Novice 8, a 6th place finish for the Women’s Varsity 8 and a 14th place finish out of 30 for the Men’s Novice 8. This was the best that the team has performed in quite some time at any regatta.
The final race of the fall was Fall FIRA, held in Melbourne, Florida. Each of the Men’s Varsity, Men’s Novice and Women’s Novice medaled in at least one event. The crowning moment of Text Box: Inside this issue:
