Birth Thru 1966 - Dominican Repulbic

Shortly after my 1949 hospital birth in Lake Wales, Florida U.S.A.; the same hospital where my mother had been born; I made my initial trip to the Carribean country of the Dominican Republic; which occupies the majority / eastern three-quarters of the island of Hispanola. My Cuban father; University of Florida '47 BS EE, was employed by Westinghouse (U.S.A.) in the capital Santo Domingo then known as Cuidad Trujillo. In 1956 my father was hired by the American owned South Puerto Rico Sugar Company to be the chief electrical engineer at the La Romana Sugar Mill. He served in this capacity until June of 1967.

Though this period of my life, school had been 'private' primarily in English with Spanish as a second language.

In the late 60's early 70's the South Puerto Rico Sugar Company; including properies in Florida, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic became part of the the conglomerate Gulf & Western Industries; which at that time already 'owned' among other companies the Paramount / Desilu Motion Picture Studios, Jensen Swim-wear and the Miss Univerise Title. While under the ownership of Gulf & Western Industries that former cane fields east of the La Romana sugar mill and the La Romana River were developed into "The Alto De Chabon" and "Casa De Campos" resorts.
