What is a Fraternity?
A Fraternity is a social club for male undergraduates that are bound together by friendship, brotherhood, and common goals and ambitions. The members that form the Fraternity share their friendships, efforts, and knowledge. Members of Phi Gamma Delta endeavor to enhance their educational experience by emphasizing intellectual, interpersonal, and social development. As fraternity men, we strive to live everyday based on the ideals of a lifelong friendship, sound education, and community service, and social interaction are what Fraternity men strive to live by every day.

Am I buying friends?
Absolutely not, if you have ever taken part of any other club, you know fees are what keep them operating. Where you buying your friends in those clubs? It is doubtful. All organizations have operating costs for the year. We do more than any other single club you could join and thus it costs us a bit more to operate. Our fees are required to help cover:

The fact is simple, by working together and spending time together we begin to realize the good qualties that indivduals within our fraternity have, and we admire what they stand for. This is why we become great friends and brothers! Paying dues does not make you a FIJI, the advancement of yourself, your chapter, and your community does!

Fraternities are elitist, racist, and cliquish, right?
Absolutely not, Phi Gamma Delta is proud that we come from a variety of ethnic and economic backgrounds. We encourage diversity and never discriminate.

Do you haze?
No! Click to see our section on our hazing policy.

Don't Fraternities take up a lot of time?
It is all about what you want to make of it. Fraternity membership requires anywhere from 2 to 8 hours a week or frankly as much as you would like to put into it. Whether your time is spent planning a party, a community service project, or just attending regular weekly meetings, one learns to manage their time wisely with other commitments like homework, girlfriends, and a job. This is also why there is such a high correlation of success and past members of fraternities.

If I'm new on campus, shouldn't I wait to get my "feet on the ground" before I join?
Gainesville and UF are huge! By meeting and getting to know more people, the more comfortable you will feel on campus. By joining in your first year, you will find adjusting to university life a lot easier. Nearly every member who didn't join in his first year on campus wishes he had.

What is Recruitment (Rush)?
Fraternity Rush is a time when the Fraternities seek and recruit new men to join. It is a time when men on campus have an opportunity to visit each Fraternity and compare what each has to offer so that they may chose the best one for them to join. All the Rush parties and functions are free! Even if you aren’t sure, it is a great time to get some free food and meet a lot of people just like you.

If I go through Recruitment, do I have to join a Fraternity?
No. Recruitment is a time just to come and see what Fraternity life can offer you. Going to recruitment events or registering for Rush does not commit you to joining anything, but it does allow you to score some free food.
