Officers

The current officers were elected by the general membership on April 5, 2007. Officers meetings, which all members are encouraged to attend, are held at 8:00pm every Wednesday after practice in the Florida Gym during the Fall and Spring semesters. If you have a question, concern, or suggestion, then please address them at the officers meeting, or contact fencing@grove.ufl.edu.

Constitution

The current Florida Fencing constitution and bylaws were ratified by the general membership on November 28, 2001. An official copy is available at the Office of Student Activities (Reitz Union, room 330). The Declaration of Coaching was voted into resolution on October 23, 2002. The revision to the Bylaws were voted on October 27, 2004. There will be further revisions to vote on in the near future. Electronic versions in Adobe PDF format are available below. Minutes

The minutes are a record of discussion during officers meetings. Members are encouraged to read the minutes; however, they are not an adequate substitution for attendance at the meetings. All minutes are provided in Microsoft Word format. Contact Tara if you have problems viewing them. Minutes from each season are archived into ZIP files on the Archives page.

Membership Status

The membership of Florida Fencing is divided into two main categories: recreational and active competitive. Each category is further subdivided to meet the needs and goals of the members in the club. The chart below gives an brief explanation of the variety of membership available in the club. A declaration of status (see Forms section) must be made by all members. All members must meet the requirements as stated by the Sport Clubs Handbook, in addition to the requirements of their membership status. Recreational
Inactive Active
  • Requirements: No additional requirements.
  • Member has access to recreational facility time.
  • Member has access to recreational equipment.
  • Member has access to local tournament calendar.
  • Requirements: Member attends 50% of recreational practice time.
  • Member has access to recreational facility time, or veteran practices at captain/coach/officer discretion
  • Member has access to recreational equipment.
  • Member has access to local tournament calendar.
  • Member has option to vote in club elections and decisions.
Active Competitive
Novice Veteran
  • Definition: A member with no previous competitive fencing experience who wishes to fence at a competitive level
  • Requirements: Member must attend two-thirds of his scheduled practices and two tournaments per semester
  • Member earns the option to become a veteran competitive member
  • Definitions: A member with previous novice or veteran competitive fencing experience or a member who has a veteran-level understanding of fencing techniques and strategies demonstrated through tournament results or observations by officers and captains at practice
  • Requirements: Member must attend two-thirds of his scheduled practices and two tournaments per semester
  • If eligible, member has the option to be considered for traveling to and competing at intercollegiate competitions

Forms

  • Sport Clubs Wavier - This form must be completed and submitted to the Sport Clubs office (Southwest Recreation Center, room 120) at the beginning of each Fall semester. You may also bring it to any of the Club officers. All participants must complete this form regardless of inactive or active membership. (Adobe PDF)

  • USFA Membership Form - This form must be completed for anyone wishing to compete at USFA tournaments (local or national). Members should register Univ. of Florida Fencing Club as the primary club (not school), Competitive Senior or Competitive Junior (whichever is applicable--explanation is on the second page), and in the Gateway FL division. The Club abbreviation is UFFC. This document is in Adobe PDF format and is also available from the USFA.

  • USFA NAC Entry Form - This form must be completed for entry into any North American Cup event. If you have any questions about filling it out, please see an officer or captain. This document is in Adobe PDF format and is also available from the USFA.
