Fundraising

Fundraising has always been an important aspect of covering Club expenses, it has become even more important with the introduction of the 25 Percent Rule, which mandates sport clubs to fundraise 25% of their total allocated budget in order to receive the entire amount. UF Fencing hopes all members will help in fundraising efforts for the Club. Everyone, whether veteran or novice, competitive or recreational, benefits from fundraising efforts. Team entry fees, hotel costs, bus rides, gas reimbursements, and equipment purchase and upkeep are all funded with fundraised monies.

The officers have appointed a Fundraising Chairperson for the facilitation of all fundraising efforts. Current fundraising efforts focus on work that supports UAA football and basketball games. Swim meets have recently been added to our fundraising repertoire. Additional fundraising ideas are always welcome. For any information regarding fundraising, please contact Courtney Stokes.

Games

One way members can help raise funds for the club is to volunteer to work for the O'Connell Center. Typical jobs include ushering, attending parking lots, and timing events. A schedule of the available games will be listed below. Please contact Treasurer Courtney Stokes to volunteer for a game. Keep in mind that both competitive and recreational members benefit from the budget, so everyone should try their best to fundraise!

Football

We earn a large portion of our 25% budget requirement from football games. Please plan to work two 12-hour shifts or 4 six-hour shifts. More members cooperating means a large decrease in the number of shifts per person. Morning shifts start at 7:15am and afternoon shifts start at noon.

A Special Thanks. The work for the 2003-2004 Season was exhausted with the conclusion of the November 29th FSU game. Florida Fencing was saddened by a loss that day. It was not the game, but rather Assistant Director Scott Sargent, who moved to a higher position in Maryland. We would like to thank Mr. Sargent for supporting our fundraising efforts over the years. Without him we would not be near the position we are today.

Basketball

Working these games will help us get new electric equipment, such as weapons, replacement blades, lamés, and electric masks, as well as subsidize travel expenses. The shift times vary depending on the tipoff time. Parking shifts typically start at 3:30pm for 7:00 games. Ushering lasts until the end of the game. Everyone (vets included) should plan to work at least two games. For those who worked only one or zero football games you need to work more basketball games. If you are fundraising on a practice day, then your absence will be excused. We work in the parking lots prior to the games and there is usually time to do work while you sit there.

Swim Meets

Duties will generally include keeping time for the swimmers with a stop watch. This is considered one of our more enjoyable fundraising opportunities, and we have sixteen slots to fill per meet, so sign up right away! There are only two available meets, so pick at least one that's best for you.

Sponsorships

The club always appreciates donations from individuals and companies. To set up a tax-deductible donation, please contact Treasurer Danika Globokar. A sponsorship packet is available upon request.
