"Art is something made by artists" -- Andy Warhol. Art is subjectivity. Marcel Duchamp proved that even a snow shovel can be art if the right person signs it. He was the right person. "The Art of Reprographic Appropriation" is a conceptual art project that strives to incorporate, and "appropriate" many ideas of successful avant garde artists. The piece shown to the left is a collection of images appropriated from a calendar of Casablanca film stills. I showed the stills to different people, I solicited from them one word reactions, and, using those words, I created the title of the piece. After I had assembled the piece in the 3 by 4 square, Dottie Attie style arrangement, I distorted the stills further by having the work photocopied as a negative image. I was able to bypass inspiration and create art by setting rules and following them. Art is just a game, and everyone should play.
