Calculating Amount Of Water Needed
The amount of water that a container plant needs daily can be calculated. Daily potential evapotranspiration (PET) for a given locale multiplied by the plant or crop coefficient (K) is equal to the amount of water needed, once this value is adjusted for percent capture. Crop coefficients vary with time of year, plant size and distance between plants. Some sample crop coefficients are provided for your calculations. Potential evapotranspiration is given for several locations in Florida, but more specific data for your locale can be obtained from websites.
