Team Florida Mailing List FAQ

-=[ The Team Florida Mailing List FAQ ]=-

1. What is the Team-Florida-L mailing list?
2. How do I subscribe to this mailing list?
3. How do I contact the owner of the Team-Florida-L?
4. When are the Team Florida meetings?
5. Is there an official Team Florida web site?
6. How do I use the mailing list?
7. If I receive an email via the mailing list, should I reply to the
original sender and the mailing list?
8. What are commands and what do they do?
9. Are messages sent to the Team-Florida-L mailing list archived?
10. How can I read previously sent messages to the mailing list?
11. How do I unsubscribe from the TEAM-FLORIDA-L mailing list?

1. What is the Team-Florida-L mailing list?

A means of communicating with other Team Florida members via email. It is a mailing list of people’s names and addresses that is used to send messages or announcements to all Team Florida Cycling members that are subscribed to the list at once.

2. How do I subscribe to this mailing list?

A number of ways exist.
a. Send an email to LISTSERV@LISTS.UFL.EDU with the following in the body
of the email (not the subject line):

subscribe TEAM-FLORIDA-L

b. Ask the list owner to subscribe you at one of the Team meetings.
c. Send an email to the list owner asking to be subscribed.

Note that option b and c are not automatically executed, whereas option a is.

3. How do I contact the owner of the Team-Florida-L?

Send an email to: TEAM-FLORIDA-L-Request@LISTS.UFL.EDU. You will receive an autogenerated reply almost immediately that inlcudes the following:

“Your message to TEAM-FLORIDA-L-request@LISTS.UFL.EDU has been forwarded to the “list owners” (the people who manage the TEAM-FLORIDA-L list). If you wanted to reach a human being, you used the correct procedure and you can ignore the remainder of this message. If you were trying to send a command for the computer to execute, please read on.

The TEAM-FLORIDA-L list is managed by a LISTSERV server. LISTSERV commands should always be sent to the “LISTSERV” address, ie
LISTSERV@LISTS.UFL.EDU. LISTSERV never tries to process messages sent to the TEAM-FLORIDA-L-request address; it simply forwards them to a human being, and acknowledges receipt with the present message.”

4. When are the Team Florida meetings?

Tuesdays at 9:00pm during the regular Fall and Spring semesters.

5. Is there an official Team Florida web site?

Yes. http://grove.ufl.edu/~cycling/

[back to mailing list questions]

6. How do I use the mailing list?

Once you are subscribed to the list, all you need to do is ask your question or participate in the current discussion and wait for someone to answer. Ask your question by sending an email to the Team-Florida-L mailing list, which involves an email addressed to: TEAM-FLORIDA-L@LISTS.UFL.EDU (caps are not necessary).

7. If I receive an email via the mailing list, should I reply to the original sender and the mailing list?

Bear in mind that everyone subscribed to the list will receive your email if it is addressed to TEAM-FLORIDA-L@LISTS.UFL.EDU. While everyone benefits from receiving the training plan, times for rides, and bikes for sale/giveaway to team members, there may be emails of a personal nature that would be better directed to the intended recipient alone. If you are not sure, imagine addressing the email to a hundred individual recipients.

8. What are commands and what do they do?

Commands are used to get information *about* a mailing list, and not to send information *to* the mailing list. To clarify: commands sent to the TEAM-FLORIDA-L mailing list will be received by all subscribed members as an email and not bring about the desired result (normally - of course, if your desire is to send all subscribed members a command that does nothing…). As an example, to see all members subscribed to the TEAM-FLORIDA-L mailing list, send an email to

LISTSERV@LISTS.UFL.EDU

with the following command in the body of the email:

REVIEW TEAM-FLORIDA-L

Notice that this command is sent not to the TEAM-FLORIDA-L mailing list, but to the main managing server of all the mailing lists at UF. Go ahead, give the command a try…see who is subscribed and relish in your newfound power.

9. Are messages sent to the Team-Florida-L mailing list archived?

Yes. The messages sent (or posted) to a mailing list are saved in files known as list archives for future reference. These can be found at
http://www.lists.ufl.edu/archives/team-florida-l.html.

10. How can I read previously sent messages to the mailing list?

Visit the above url.

11. How do I unsubscribe from the TEAM-FLORIDA-L mailing list?
