Career Highlights
- 1991-92: Went to NCAA Final Four with LSU. Selected as the first pick
in the NBA draft by the Orlando Magic.
- 1992-93: Became the first player ever to be NBA Player of the Week
his first week in the league. Started to All-Star game as a rookie. He
was voted rookie of the year and was the only player to be in the top 10
in the league in 4 different categories (pts, reb, blks, fg pct) He
also broke down two goals with power dunks during the season.
- 1993-94: Shaq led the league in FG pct (.599) and was 2nd in scoring
(29.3 ppg) and rebounding (13.2 rpg). He led the Magic to their first playoff
appearance in franchise history.
- 1994-95: Led the league in scoring (29.3 ppg), was 2nd in FG pct,
3rd in rebounding, and 6th in blocks. Orlando also became the first
team in almost 50 years to get to the NBA finals the same season they
got their first playoff victory. Shaq let Orlando to the finals, where
they got swept by Houston.
- 1995-96: Shaq missed the first few weeks of the season with a
broken thumb, but still finished in the top 10 in the league in scoring,
rebounding, blocks, and FG pct, becoming the only player in the NBA to be
in the top 10 in four different statistical categories each of the last
four years. Orlando did not make it back to the NBA finals because they
were upset in the Eastern Conference Finals by Chicago. Shaq later won
a gold medal with the Olympic basketball team in Atlanta. After the
season, he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent.
