Career Highlights
- 1988-89: Left Trinity Valley Community College for the NBA after one
year of college. Was drafted with the 17th pick by the Seattle
Supersonics.
- 1989-90: Averaged 6.5 ppg and 4.3 rpg in only 13.8 minutes per game
in his rookie season.
- 1990-91: Became a starter for the Sonics and averaged 15.0 ppg and
8.4 rpg. Shot .508 from the field and was 18th in the NBA with 1.52
blocks per game. Set a franchise record with 10 blocks against the LA
Lakers on Jan 18. Averaged 13.2 ppg and 7.2 rpg in the playoffs.
- 1991-92: Missed 18 games due to injury, but averaged 15.5 pts, 10.4
reb, and 1.94 blk (14th) per game. Stepped it up in the playoffs,
averaging 22.0 pts and 16.3 reb per game, including 20 rebounds in Game
4 of the Sonics 1st round upset of Golden State.
- 1992-93: For the 3rd straight year, kemp improved his scoring (17.8
ppg) and rebounding (10.7 rpg) averages. He finished 12th in the NBA in
both rebounding and blocks (1.87 per game). In 19 playoff games, Kemp
averaged 16.5 pts, 10.0 reb, and 2.11 blk per game. The Sonics came
within one game of the NBA Finals, losing to Phoenix in Game 7 of the
Western Conference Finals 123-110.
- 1993-94: Kemp led the Sonics in both scoring (18.1 ppg) and
rebounding (10.8 rpg). He finished 13th in the NBA in rebounding, 5th
in FG pct (.538), and 10th in blocks (2.1 per game). He led the Sonics
to a league best 63-19 record, but the Sonics were upset by Denver in
the first round of the playoffs.
- 1994-95: For the 5th consecutive year, Kemp improved both his
scoring (18.7 ppg) and his rebounding (10.9 rpg) averages. He finished
24th in the NBA in scoring, 6th in rebounding, 8th in FG pct (.547), and
19th in blocks (1.49 per game). He set a new career high with 42 pts
against the LA Clippers on Dec 10. In Seattle's 1st round loss to the
Lakers, Kemp averaged 24.8 pts, 12.0 reb, 2.0 stl, and 1.75 blk per
game, and shot .579 from the field and .821 on FTs.
- 1995-96: Raised his scoring and rebounding averages to career highs
of 19.6 ppg (22nd) and 11.4 rpg (5th). Shot a career high .561 from the
field (5th) and finished 17th in the NBA in blocks (1.61 per game). Led
the Sonics all the way to the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Bulls
in six games.
