Career Highlights
- 1982-83: Selected by the San Diego Clippers with the fourth pick in
the 1983 NBA Draft. Traded to the Lakers for Norm Nixon and Eddie
Jordan the day before the preseason schedule began.
- 1983-84: Was the No. 3 vote-getter on the NBA All-Rookie Team.
Became a starter for the Lakers and averaged 10.6 ppg. Helped the
Lakers get to the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Celtics in 7 games.
- 1984-85: Led the NBA in 3-pt pct (.433) in only his 2nd season.
Averaged 16.0 ppg for the season, 4th on the team. Led the Lakers in
scoring (23.4 ppg) and FG pct (.654) in the Western Conference Finals
against Denver on the way to a NBA Finals win in a rematch with Boston.
- 1985-86: Averaged 15.4 ppg and shot .513 from the field in the
regular season. The Lakers lost to Houston in the Western Conference
Finals. In 14 postseason games, Scott averaged 16.0 ppg.
- 1986-87: Finished 4th in the NBA in 3-pt pct (.436) and FT pct
(.892). His FT pct was the best single-season percentage in Lakers
history and his 3-pt pct was his own career-high. He averaged 17.0 ppg,
3.5 rpg, and 3.4 apg. He also participated in the 3-pt shootout at the
All-Star Game. Won his second NBA championship as the Lakers beat the
Celtics in 6 games in the NBA Finals.
- 1987-88: Led the Lakers in scoring at 21.7 ppg, becoming only the 6th
player in the last 30 years to lead the Lakers in scoring (Baylor, West,
Goodrich, Kareem, and Magic were the other 5). He also set career highs
in rebounding (4.1 rpg), assists (4.1 apg), and steals (155). His
scoring average was 12th in the league and he also shot .527 from the
field. Finished 3rd in the 3-pt shootout at the All-Star Game.
Averaged 19.6 ppg and shot .436 from behind the arc in the playoffs, as
the Lakers won the NBA championship, becoming the first team to win
back-to-back championships since the Celtics did it 19 years earlier.
- 1988-89: Led the team and finished 10th in the NBA in 3-pt pct
(.399). Was third on the Lakers in scoring (19.6 ppg). Was averaging
over 20 ppg in the playoffs, including 24.8 ppg in the Western
Conference Finals, as the Lakers swept their way into the NBA Finals.
On the day before the NBA Finals started, Scott tore his left hamstring
and missed the entire series. Magic, who was also averaging over 20
ppp, also sustained a torn left hamstring and missed the entire series.
The Lakers were swept in Kareem's final season.
- 1989-90: Finished 5th in the NBA in 3-pt pct (.432) and averaged
15.5 ppg. Got a career-high 10 rebounds against Phoenix on Nov 7. The
Lakers failed to make the NBA Finals for the first time in 4 years,
losing to the Suns in the Western Conference Semis.
- 1990-91: In his eighth season, Scott became the 11th player in NBA
history to make 400 career three-pointers. He also became the 10th
Laker in history to score 10,000 career points when he reached that
milestone on March 17 against the Spurs. Averaged 14.5 ppg (3rd on the
team) in the regular season. The Lakers made it back to the NBA Finals
for the 4th time in 5 years, losing to Chicago in 5 games. Scott was
20-38 from behind the arc, averaging 13.2 ppg in the playoffs.
- 1991-92: After Magic's retirement, Scott and Worthy became team
cocaptains. Scott averaged 14.9 ppg and passed Michael Cooper team
record of 428 career 3-pointers on Nov 24. He finished the season with
478 career 3-pointers. He also moved into 7th place on the Lakers'
all-time scoring list. Without Magic, the Lakers lost in the first
round for the first time since 1981. Scott led the team in scoring with
18.8 ppg in the 4 game loss to Portland.
- 1992-93: Averaged 13.7 ppg in only 28.9 minutes per game. Made his
500th career 3-pt on March 5 vs the 76ers. The Lakers almost upset
top seed Phoenix in the playoffs, winning the first 2 games in Phoenix.
The Suns then won the next 2, then won the last game in OT.
- 1993-94: Scott signed with Indiana as a free agent. He averaged
10.4 ppg coming off the bench as Reggie Miller's backup. He hit a 3-pt
with 2 seconds left in Indiana's first playoff game against Orlando to
give them an 89-88 win. He averaged 7.8 ppg in the postseason and
helped Indiana get to the Eastern Conference Finals.
- 1994-95: Scott averaged 10.0 ppg, once again coming off the bench.
He finished 2nd on the team in 3-pt attempted, made, and 3-pt pct
behind Reggie Miller. Scott made the playoffs for the 12th straight
year, the longest active streak. Once again, he helped the Pacers get to the
Eastern Conference Finals, where they lost to Orlando in 7 games.
- 1995-96: Was picked up by Vancouver in the expansion draft. He
averaged 10.2 ppg off the bench and led the team in FT pct at .835. Scott
didn't make the playoffs for the first time in his career.
