The computer rankings are based on strength of schedule and margin of victory or loss. They are also an average of every game weighted so that the games at the end of the season count more. Here is the formula for the weekly rate:
Weekly Rate= Opponent's Rate * Number from table belowMargin of | Difference in rates Victory | 0-10 | 10-20 | 20-30 | 30+ | ----------+------------+------------+------------+---------+ 1-7 pts | 1.04 | 1.06 | 1.09 | 1.09 | 8-17 pts | 1.08 | 1.12 | 1.17 | 1.18 | 18-31 pts | 1.12 | 1.18 | 1.24 | 1.26 | 32-48 pts | 1.15 | 1.25 | 1.30 | 1.34 | 49-65 pts | 1.18 | 1.30 | 1.34 | 1.37 | 66+ pts | 1.21 | 1.34 | 1.38 | 1.40 | overtime | 1.00 | 1.00 | 1.00 | 1.00 | -1 - -7 | .94 | .95 | .96 | .96 | -8 - -17 | .88 | .90 | .92 | .92 | -18 - -31 | .82 | .86 | .88 | .89 | -32 - -48 | .78 | .82 | .85 | .86 | -49 - -65 | .74 | .79 | .82 | .83 | -66+ | .70 | .76 | .79 | .80 | Ls sec win| 1.02 | 1.03 | 1.04 | 1.04 | Ls sec los| .98 | .98 | .99 | .99 | ------------------------------------------------------------ Ls sec win= last second win (like Colorado vs Michigan in 1994) Ls sec los= last second loss
