On a small parcel of land at the University of Florida Research and Education Center, the Invasive Plant Research Laboratory has set up a small demonstration plot. Large demonstration sites are important to show the scale of the melaleuca problem. However, in small study plots we can control certain factors to demonstrate their effects on melaleuca growth and performance.

Biological Control Treatments 
Biological control agents are attacking saplings while neighboring trees are protected from attack by spraying the trees with insecticides. Native plants, specifically those closely related to melaleuca, are also planted amongst the melaleuca trees to demonstrate the safety of biological control agents. The site offers the opportunity to get close inspection of the melaleuca biological control insects. This site is ideal for school tours as scientists are often available to give talks and answer questions.
