There are many opporutunitites to becoming involved with the Academic Organizations structure at the University of Florida. On this page, you will find supplementary information about getting involved in both the Board of College Councils administrative stucture and our subsidary organizations. Please note: your primary source for this information should be your College Council or BOCC executive officers.
Areas of Involvement:
Three opporutunities to serve with the BOCC are on the BOCC Committees, as an elected officer and as an appointed officer. The Constitution and Public Relations Committees are open to all UF students and serve concurrently with the Executive Board to improve the structure of Academic Organizations at UF. Contact an Executive Board member for more information on the Executive Board elections or the Appointed Auditor and Historian positions.
Getting Involved with a College Council
Many College Councils have several different avenues for student involvement. Check with your College Council president and treasurer for information concerning Executive positions and elections within your College Council. There may also be committiees and apointed directorships available for students to help with the programming hosted by a College Council.
Another oppourtunity within a College Council is to join a student led organization. To find student led organizations within your academic area of interest, contact the Student Activities Center. You may also contact your College Council executive officers for more information on student organizations.
Starting a New Student Organization
Why start a new student organization?
Process for starting a new student organization
1) Who? What? When? Where? Why? Before starting the registration process, have a solid idea as to the purpose and identity of the organization, and, ideally, identify a potential organization president who will spearhead the process. Keep in mind that the registration process requires officer information, meaning that officers must be elected before the end of the process.
2) Find a faculty advisor. All student groups are required to have one, and selecting an advisor who is attentive and student-oriented will assist in continuity of your organization from year to year.
3) Pick up a Student Organization registration form and constitution guideline from the Student Activities Center (or download these documents from www.union.ufl.edu/sac).
4) The organization president must return these documents, in person, to the Student Activities center, and will receive materials to be used in completing online registration.
5) Complete the online registration process, which requires entering personal information for the organizational officers (student number, phone number, email). Note that this information is used to verify student eligibility and will also appear in the online organizational directory provided by the SAC. Student numbers, or course, remain confidential.
6) All submitted information (constitution and officer information) will be reviewed by the Director of Student Activities and the Vice President for Student Affairs. Once both parties have reviewed and approved the information the group will be considered official and registered, and the organization president will be notified by email.
