Madelyn Lockhart Fellowship
The Association for Academic Women (AAW) at the University of Florida has established the Madelyn Lockhart Dissertation Fellowship to honor an outstanding female graduate student. One fellowship in an amount up to $2,000 will be awarded to assist in the dissertation phase of the doctoral degree. The recipient must be enrolled in dissertation credits for at least one semester (fall, spring or summer) after she is selected to receive the fellowship in spring 2009.

The award was established to recognize Dr. Madelyn Lockhart who served as Dean of the Graduate School and Dean of International Studies and Programs from 1985 to 1993, Associate Dean from 1981 to 1985 and Assistant Dean from 1973 to 1977 and 1979 to 1981.

Criteria: Nominees should have made significant contributions to the quality of life of women. Defined broadly, these contributions include those directed to women at the University, in the local community, the state, nation or society in general. Recipients of the Woman of Distinction Award must be eligible for membership in AAW but the award is not restricted to current AAW members.

Please submit your nomination by February 28, 2009. The Woman of Distinction Award Committee will review the nominations and submit recommendations to the Executive Board of AAW for final selection. The award recipient will be announced at the Women’s History Month Reception in March of 2009.
