A Message from our President
Welcome to the University of Florida Association for Academic Women (AAW), an organization known for its rich history and interesting and informative programs. Founded in 1974 as the Association
for Women Faculty, its membership now includes faculty and professional staff (i.e., coordinators, directors, etc.). Our founders were successful in passing a salary equity bill in the Florida
Legislature in 1976 and many AAW past presidents have served as chair of Faculty Senate or in other leadership positions at UF. Today, our mission includes:
- providing networking and mentoring opportunities for academic women from all disciplines through monthly programs, events, and networking luncheons;
- supporting female graduate students through the Madelyn Lockhart Dissertation Fellowship and other scholarship programs;
- serving as an advisory group to University administration through our higher education liaison; and
- celebrating and honoring the efforts of women who have improved the quality of life at UF and in the broader Gainesville community through the Women’s History Month celebration at the President’s
House each March.
AAW is here to serve you – if you have any ideas or suggestions for programs or initiatives, I would love to hear from you. To receive early notice of our programs download

Best regards,
Diane Craig
AAW 2011 President
