We suggest you use cygwin and putty. Both of these products are free and
open source.
Putty can be found at:
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html
Cygwin can be found at:
http://www.cygwin.com
You just download and run the cygwin setup, making sure to select the
xorg-x11-base package under the X11 category (usually this is checked by
default) accepting all the defaults.
Using cygwin and putty:
There should be a cygwin category in your start menu or an icon for cygwin.
Click on it. At the command prompt, type X & (without the
quotes). That should open a big gray window that you then should
minimize.
Next run putty. On the initial screen go down to the
Connection->Ssh->X11 category and check Enable X11
forwarding.
Then click back on the Session category, type in the host name
(grove.ufl.edu). (If you don't want to do this
every time, then type a name in the Saved Sessions and click
Save on the right). Now, click on the Open button. At the login as: type
in your Grove username. It will then prompt you for your Grove password. At
the command prompt type in sas or whichever Grove application you
want to use in graphical mode.
