Setup for Cygwin/X

You download and run the cygwin setup. However in order to get the cygwin/X files and icon you must make sure to drill down to the X11 category and check xinit to install all the graphical files you need.

Run the Cygwin Setup file.

Using Cygwin and PuTTY to Run Graphical Apps:

There should be a Cygwin-X category in your start menu or an icon for Cygwin-X. Then just minimize the window.

Next run PuTTY. On the initial screen go down to the Connection->Ssh->X11 category and check Enable X11 forwarding. Then click back on the Session category, type in the host name ssh.grove.ufl.edu or the name of the specific service node you want, such as maple.grove.ufl.edu. If you don't want to do this every time, then type a name in the Saved Sessions and click Save on the right.
Now, click on the Open button. At the login as: type in your Grove username. It will then prompt you for your Grove password. At the command prompt type in the name of the graphical program.
